Fascinating! I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out the trick here.
Are you, by any chance, pre-simulating the roll on each button click (in the background), then swapping the textures once you determine which faces will land facing up? :)

But it is interesting how you can spam click ROLL and it's fine. How many simulated rolls has he cached?
the previous simulated rolls are deleted when you press ROLL, ensuring there's only 1 simulated roll at a time
